Today, Facebook plays a very important role in affecting the way in which the younger generation flirts, falls in love and finally breaks up. Seventeen, an American teenagers’ magazine, recently disclosed a study to let out the consequences of Facebook, the most common social-networking website, on modern-day courtship.

According to the Chief Editor of this famous magazine, Ann Shoket, Facebook plays a very important role in the lives of today’s teens that are highly social.

As per the study revealed by Seventeen, which took into consideration the opinions of almost 10,000 teenagers (both girls and boys in the age group 16-21), Facebook has a big role to play in the way teens make their connection romantic and amative. As soon as they meet a new face on this social-networking website, 79% teens click “friend” and add the new face to their friend list. Out of these teens, 60% of them go through the other person’s profile at least once in a day. Some 40% go as far as checking many times a day the profile of their would-be or could-be soul mate.

While many people believe that such social-networking websites have actually brought a stop to communication, approximately 72% of these teens who were involved in the study claimed that chatting with friends online brings them closer in real life too.

Many other studies conducted on this networking website claim that it also plays a crucial role in how teens fall apart in love soon. Samuel Axon, a writer for Mashable, has written a detailed article on the ways this website has changed the formula of dating, that too for the worse. AreYouInterested, a commonly used Facebook dating application, published another study according to which almost 21% teens responded that in order to break up with their current dates, they would immediately change their statuses.

Recently, David McCandless, infographic wizard, also revealed a chart, which throws light on some popular breakup time periods by means of status updates. In fact Seventeen reported that almost 10% people are dumped on Facebook and an equal number of people intentionally change their status to “single” in order to lure and attract the opposite sex. The same report also brought into limelight the pain and hurt that this website brings to people after their breakup. As many as 27% people switch their connection with their flings by removing the person from their friend list, blocking the person, or hiding the person through News Feed. However, an astonishing 73% people would still keep their flings as part of their friend list.

In addition to all this information, the report by the magazine also brings some other interesting facts:

·                      Between the two sexes, girls have been found to be more judgmental. As many as 43% females would decide to not start dating someone by just looking at his or her profile on Facebook.

·                      Males generally keep the status of their actual relationship under wraps.
